Welcome to Pathway Speech Solutions

Pathway Speech Solutions is a private adult speech therapy practice providing telepractice speech therapy services to adults throughout the state of Indiana. Our mission is to support our clients in finding their way home to resume meaningful relationships, and reenter society as contributing members. Our person-centered approach to speech therapy is their pathway there. Through life-participation activity, we focus on what is in our clients’ hearts—getting them back to doing what they love and effectively communicating with whom they love.

Services

At Pathway Speech Solutions, we are making quality therapy accessible to adults throughout our great state of Indiana. Clients receive services from the comfort of their homes without the hassle of traveling to appointments. We meet with our clients over a secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform to provide direct therapy and caregiver coaching.

Our collaborative therapy approach emphasizes the client’s values and goals throughout the treatment process and activity selection to support generalization, build confidence, and improve quality of life.

Cognitive Communication

Cognitive-communication therapy targets the impaired skills that affect participation and management of daily activities. Based on the client's goals, we will address attention, memory, problem-solving, and other executive functioning skills to increase participation in and management of daily activities such as

  • Keeping appointments

​

  • Remembering names of family members or friends

​

  • Managing medications

​

  • Following a schedule

​

  • Work/employment-related tasks

​

  • Returning to school

Language / Aphasia

A person with language impairment may experience difficulty with word-finding, producing complete sentences, naming objects and other important items, or verbalizing correct words (paraphasias).

Language and aphasia treatment address communication skills to increase participation in daily life. Treatment will focus on the client's needs related to

​

  • Understanding spoken language

​

  • Word finding strategies

​

  • Verbal and written expression

​

  • Functional communication for wants and needs

​

  • Reading

Dysarthria/Speech & Voice

Clients having difficulty with their speech or voice may experience

​

  • Running out of air when speaking

​

  • Difficulty forming words/sounds

​

  • Slurred speech

​

  • Pauses between words

​

  • Voice changes (e.g., breathy, strained, hoarse voice, etc.)

​

  • Difficulty increasing or changing the volume of their voice

​

  • Difficulty holding conversations

​

  • Challenges communicating in social situations and at home, work, or school

​

Treatment addresses muscle strength and coordination for speaking, breath support, and specific voice strategies based on each client's unique needs.

Swallowing

Clients having difficulty with swallowing may experience

​

  • Pain when swallowing

​

  • Coughing or throat clearing while eating or drinking

​

  • Feeling like something is stuck in the throat

​

  • Food getting "pocketed" in the mouth

​

  • Difficulty chewing food and initiating a swallow

​

  • Hoarse or "wet" vocal quality after eating or drinking

​

  • Avoiding certain foods because of difficulty swallowing them​

​

Treatment addresses muscle strength and coordination for chewing and swallowing as well as recommendations for types, textures, and thickness of foods and liquids, optimum positioning, and safe swallow strategies.

Katie Blankemeier, M.A., CCC-SLP

Katie brings over 6 years of experience in diverse rehabilitation settings serving adults throughout the state with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders as a result of stroke, brain injury, and other medical and neurological conditions, including organ transplants and Covid-19. She most recently transitioned to serving adults in the outpatient setting with Pathway Speech Solutions.

Katie takes a person-centered and life participation approach to therapy. These two frameworks, along with evidence-based practice, are the foundation of her therapy and practice. Katie understands that every person has different experiences, expectations, and needs and what suits one client may not be so suitable for another. Katie believes in collaboration with clients and caregivers to deliver therapy that will have the greatest impact on each individual client's life. Whether she is cooking alongside a client or practicing making phone calls, Katie's goal is to help every client regain and rediscover their passion and motivation for living their lives with meaning and purpose.

Katie is licensed to practice in the state of Indiana and holds the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). She is also a recipient of two ASHA ACE awards for her commitment to learning and staying current with evidence-based practices. Katie earned her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 2012 and her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from St. John’s University in 2015.

Adult Swallowing Therapy in Indiana

Teletherapy

Therapy is provided in the convenience of the client’s natural environment- the home. Telepractice is convenient for clients who do not want to travel and allows access to specialty services that may not be offered in-person near where the client lives.

Based out of Hamilton County, Indiana, and serving the entire state of Indiana.

Getting Started

1.

We will begin with a free 15-minute phone or video consult.

2.

Clients will be sent intake paperwork online, we will check benefits, and then schedule the initial appointment.

3.

Once therapy begins, we will meet online at a time and frequency that is preferable to the client.

Insurance & Billing

We currently accept Medicare insurance and are otherwise private pay or “out-of-network.” If you are private pay, we can provide you with support to seek reimbursement from your private insurance. Contact us to learn more about our cash pay options.
